Help Line (North East) is the NGO working in the poor and backward parts of North East India. initially it started as a small movement in the district of Cachar, Assam. But encouraged by the response of the local people, the activities were further increased and new areas were covered. In order to make the interventions more meaningful the organisation was registered with competent authorities.

Vision

Help Line (North East), Vill.+P.O.-Dulalgram, P.S.-Dholai, PIN-788114, District Cachar (Assam) visualizes creating a society based on justice, peace and equality irrespective of caste, creed and gender. There will be no hunger, exploration of subjugation or subjugation in any form in this society where people will live in peaceful coexistence with nature, people will love, respect and corporate with each other for self-reliance and prosperity of the society as a whole.

Mission

To facilitate the process of empowerment of the poor, marginalized and the women who are the poorest among the poor and help them to come out of the vicious cycle of poverty, injustice, exploitation and deprivation of basic human rights and to encourage people’s participation in the process of their own development in sustainable manner thought promotion of people’s organization.

Objectives

  • To take steps to ensure educational, Social, Cultural and Economical Development of Women and Child.
  • To organize centres for child helpline through NGO’s with adequate support from Government in all the districts of North East.
  • To setup innovative schools for students development (ISSD) project for safety, security and self-respect of the student/child.
  • To provide accommodation for holding meeting, seminars and conference.
  • To print, publish, sell, purchase and distribute book on diverse subjects in connection with bulletins, magazines, booklets and circular.
  • To create socio-economic-cultural-political awareness among people.
  • To organize people, especially the women, who take initiative for their lawn development.
  • To motivate people for judicious utilization of local resources.
  • To promote skill development in rural village women.

Management Competency

General body of Help Line (North East) consists of 19 members from which a nine member governing body is elected. The president is the head of the general as well as the governing body. The governing body is responsible for formation of policy and strategic plan of implementation. The general secretary is the chief executive of the organization, facilitates for formulating policy and raising funds, implementation of programmes as per the policy laid down by the governing body and monitor and supervise the work of the organization. The organization has 78 full time and part time staff who implements the projects in a participatory way. To make the smooth management of work of the organization and the programme implementation more efficient deferent committees and units have been opened and operationalised under the governing body. These committe, lm es are acting like supporting hands to the chief executives.

In order to enhance its field presence, draw inputs from field level on a regular basis and thus make its services more effective, Help Line (North East) has also open a number of Regional Field Centers at different locations in the state. The major functional areas of the RFC are as follows.

  • Assessment and collection of field data.
  • Livelihood generation and promotion.
  • Food security programme.
  • Capacity building of small NGOs and CBOs in the region.
  • Organizing SHGs and their tie-ups with MFIs.
